Decks & Porches

Repair, rebuild, and new outdoor living space framed, flashed, and finished to hold up through freeze-thaw seasons.

Outdoor Living That Stays Solid Underfoot

A deck or porch in Northeast Indiana takes a beating: snow load, standing water, and freeze-thaw that loosens fasteners and softens joists at the ledger. Casper Contracting LLC repairs, rebuilds, and builds decks and porches from North Manchester across the region so the structure is sound — not just a fresh coat of stain over hidden rot.

We start with what you cannot see from the yard. Ledger flashing, post footing, joist span, and railing connections decide whether the space is safe. If boards are cupped but the frame is good, we can re-deck. If the ledger is pulling or posts have settled, we will tell you that before we sell you new boards.

New outdoor living often ties into the rest of the house. We can coordinate a porch roof with siding, set stairs to a walkway we are landscaping, or follow a demolition so the old structure is gone and the new one is planned as one job. Tell us how you use the space — grilling, a quiet stoop, a screened sitting area — and we will size the work to that.

Deck and Porch Work We Handle

  • New decks

Wood or composite decks framed, flashed, and finished for the way you use the yard — including stairs and railings that meet code.

  • Porch repair and rebuilds

Front porches, stoops, and covered sitting areas brought back to solid framing, even floors, and trim that sheds water.

  • Boards, joists, and structural repair

Soft spots, bounced walking, and failed fasteners traced to the real cause — then repaired instead of covered over.

  • Railings, stairs, and landings

Wobbly rails and unsafe steps replaced or rebuilt so the path from the door to the yard is stable and graspable.

  • Ledger, flashing, and weatherproofing

The connection to the house is where leaks start. We flash and fasten the ledger so water does not sit against siding or the rim joist.

  • Stain, sealing, and finish refresh

When the structure is sound, we can clean and refinish the walking surface so it weathers another season instead of going gray and splintered.

How a Deck or Porch Project Goes

  1. Inspect the structure

We look under the boards at joists, posts, and the ledger, then write an estimate that separates must-fix from optional upgrades.

  2. Build to the house and the season

Work is staged so the house stays closed in. Footings, flashing, and finish land in windows that make sense for Indiana weather.

  3. Leave it ready to use

Cutoffs, old boards, and fasteners leave with us. You should have a square, walkable space — not a pile of scrap at the steps.

Common Questions

Can you repair my deck, or does it need to be rebuilt?

If the frame, posts, and ledger are sound, we can replace boards, rails, and stairs. If joists are soft, the ledger is pulling, or posts have settled, a rebuild is safer and usually cheaper than chasing failures one season at a time. We will show you what we find before you decide.

Do you build with wood or composite?

Both. Pressure-treated lumber is a strong, familiar choice. Composite costs more up front and needs less yearly upkeep. We will walk the trade-offs for sun, shade, and how much maintenance you want.

Can you tie a new deck or porch into siding or landscaping?

Yes. Flashing a ledger often means working the siding, and new stairs should land on a walk or pad that drains. We can schedule that with our siding or landscaping work so the house and yard read as one project.
